I love my monster child, I do

Here's a video taken in my home at approximately 4:25 a.m. this morning. For your viewing pleasure:

It's now a quarter to eight, and she is STILL AWAKE and thrilled than she can now write her numbers. I couldn't be less thrilled at the moment. Really.

My husband left just after the video to go to school/work. I was thrilled about that, too.

Henry got back to sleep about 20 minutes later, after some crying. I slept a little bit, but she woke up me in 15-minute increments telling me various things, like: she wanted to play a computer game ("No!"), or that she wasn't tired ("Well, I am!"), or that she wanted me to go downstairs with her ("Go by yourself!") or that downstairs was scary ("Then stay in your room!"). (See a pattern?)

Now it's time to get us all dressed and take her to preschool. I have a feeling she might take a nap today. (That will shock her teacher.)

Please don't tell me your little, adorable, kind children sleep in until 8 every morning, or that you have to wake them up to go to school. It just might push me over the edge.

Hearing your exhausted voice I’m thinking: what a poor mother. I wish I could help!

PS - Children in their under 5 are the same around the world: overactive, naughty and annoying:

Hahahaha! Oh no, poor Amber! Sounds like a complete nightmare.

If it helps, 4:30am there was a very respectable time to be awake over here ... perhaps your daughter is living on New Zealand time?

Your kids are super-cute, despite the 4-in-the-morning dramas.

Hah! Mine are 12, 7, and 5 and I still don't get to sleep all night every night. :-)

If not for the fact the video is REAL LIFE, it would be hilarious! Also brings back toooooo many unpleasant memories.

Ugh, sounds sooo familiar! My oldest is SUCH an earlybird!! It's a great day when she sleeps past 6. Can't wait for the day when they can turn on the TV and get breakfast all by themselves!

I can sympathize. I have a 4year old and a 1 1/2 year old. It is so funny how kids are so similar. My little guy refuses to take a nap.
I gave you an award on my blog :)

I've had moments like those when my kids were younger. I promise, they'll outgrow it! :)

Thanks, everyone! She's been doing better since then. :-) Although she still is crazy crazy.

Oh Amber, you sounded so exhausted in the video :(
But don't worry, this too shall pass and before you know it you will be staying up way too late wondering when they are going to come home.
Love you!

I really feel for you: I had this exact same problem. Neither of my kids slept anywhere near the amount of time they were supposed to. It does get better: you get more used to it.

When our eldest was 8, she had to have an injection after getting stung by a jellyfish in Kamakura. The doctor told me she'd konk out on the way home, that I'd have to carry her. Eight hours later, she was still wide awake, going strong. (If the injection had worked, I'd have been tempted to go back for more.)

You have heard that the kids who don't sleep are the smarter ones, right? Doesn't help much, does it?
