My friend Cindy Pon, who is in my critique group from San Diego (unfortunately, I participate long-distance), has a lovely book coming out next Tuesday called SILVER PHOENIX: Beyond the Kingdom of Xia.
I'd tell you a bit about it, but her video does a much better job than I ever could. So, without further ado, here it is:
Nice music, too, no?
And to show my family's enthusiasm for Cindy's book, here's E just before bedtime:
She's holding a tiny dragon, too. I did my best to get a smile. Mostly, she would just bat her eyes at the camera or sulk, so I was lucky to get what I got.

China, of course! (My sister lived there for two years.)
I think we should ALL dress up and re-enact Cindy's gorgeous cover. I am giggling at the images.
Love love love it! So fun. My husband just got back from China with Chinese pj's for the boys. They have dragons on them. I'll take a picture of it and post it on my blog for you.
You're daughter is sooooo adorable by the way.
love the tagline (a journey becomes a legend) and the music gave me chills!! just a few more days to go...
Hello Ms. Lough,
I found your blog via your comment on the Enchanted Inkpot's Fantasy in Asia post. What caught my interest was that you have written a novel about pre-colonial New Zealand. I understand that you haven't yet been able to find a publisher for it, but do you have a post or page that discusses it? I always get a bit nosey when people write things based in my country, lol, and I've found little enough historical Maori fiction that yours intrigues me.
Hi Marie,
My novel ROHANA is about a Moriori girl who survives the Maori invasion of Rekohu (Chatham Is.). But really it's about hope, the inevitable clash of two very different (but similar) cultures, growing up, making big decisions, and finding out what makes a person and a set of people who they are. Is that vague enough or what?! :-) It's set in 1835, on Chatham Is. I did my best to represent the Maori and Moriori cultures as accurately as I could, but so far, haven't found anyone from those backgrounds who is willing to check on it for me. Know anyone? :-)
I based most of my research on Michael King's book about the Moriori. That, and I took my family along with me to the Chathams and the rest of New Zealand. It was spectacular and gorgeous and my husband and I wish we could relocate there.
That is an amazing trailer!
Your lil girl is adorable!
Love your little girl's photo! Soooooooo cute!!!!!
Ok - having contest for Cindy's book! and this trailer is just the icing on the whole thing! So awesome!
I'm afraid I don't know anyone with that deep a historical knowledge of the interaction between the Maori and Moriori; it might be worth popping around a few Kiwi writers sites and seeing if you can find anyone with the relevant knowledge, though. Also useful for finding beta readers who may pick up the odd odd thing!
